ST. CHARLES

St.-Charles

St Charles is located in Kane County about 40 miles west of Chicago. Incorporated in 1834, St. Charles is now a bustling community of 37,000 people. It has a wide variety of amenities including shops, specialty restaurants and cultural art venues. St Charles was named Family Circle Magazine’s #1 Town for Families in 2011. The high schools, St. Charles East and St. Charles North, are annually ranked among the top high schools in the US by the Newsweek Online rating.

St. Charles has earned its reputation as one of the most sought-after communities for young professionals, families of all sizes and backgrounds and individuals looking for a bit of history, culture and beauty in their surroundings. People choose to live in St. Charles due in part to its many recreation areas, including River Forest preserves and parks and plenty of open space.

When the St. Charles community isn’t at work or school, they are enjoying one of the Top 10 Downtowns as stated by the Chicago Tribune. The downtown area was lauded by the news source for its arts and entertainment, fine dining, recreational offerings, nighttime options and unique shopping destinations.

St. Charles is roughly 40 miles west of Chicago, making it close enough to commute to for those who would like to get away from the hustle and bustle of a major metropolitan area, and just far enough to provide its own unique set of attractions and amenities.

And about those attractions: the Arcada Theatre on Main Street is one of the premier live music venues in the entire Midwest, boasting 900 seats and drawing some of the biggest names in entertainment. Adding to the allure of this theater is its gorgeous, historic architecture dating back to 1926.

And in many cases, St. Charles visitors become residents as the community’s vibrant tourist scene converts many to the St. Charles way of life. A large percentage of St. Charles households features children under the age of 18, and an even larger percentage features married couples. There are still plenty of individual households, as well, showing just how diverse and eclectic a community St. Charles really is.

St. Charles Recognized for Excellence
The fact that so many families make up the St. Charles population is a testament to the area’s school district, which features 12 elementary schools, three middle schools and two high schools. It also doesn’t hurt that Family Circle magazine named St. Charles No. 1 in its 2011 Annual Survey of Best Towns and Cities for Families.
