AURORA

North-Aurora-IL

Aurora is a vibrant suburb located about 40 miles west of Chicago. The population of nearly 200,000 people makes Aurora the second largest city in Illinois.  The Fox River runs through downtown Aurora where an extensive urban renovation is taking place, anchored by a riverboat casino and the beautifully restored Paramount Theater. The Aurora area offers a rich collections of architecturally significant homes and buildings including homes deigned by Frank Lloyd Wright and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Surrounding the historic downtown area are neighborhoods and subdivisions with every type of home imaginable.

People who live in North Aurora love it for its beautiful parks and scenic vistas, and also for its easy access to one of the biggest metropolitan areas in the United States.

Connected to Chicago by the Metra commuter rail line, North Aurora is filled with families and young professionals who enjoy getting away to this quaint community during quiet hours, but also revel in being close enough to the city to get to it whenever they desire.

Located in Kane County, North Aurora carries an autonomous public library district, in addition to its own police and fire departments. However, the community’s parks and other public spaces are maintained by the close by Fox Valley Park District. The district oversees the land running by the Fox River and is no stranger to recognition as it was awarded the National Gold Medal award in 2009 for its exemplary parks in recreation offerings.

The Fox River runs through the town north-south, providing ample recreation activities for North Aurora residents. Fishing, canoeing, swimming and other favorite American pastimes are exercised to their fullest extent in the community, bringing children and families together year-round.

North Aurora attracts a wide range of residents but its small-town feel and community spirit draws a large number of families. In fact, more than half of the households in North Aurora are comprised of families, many of which include children under the age of 18.

North Aurora residents can stay abreast of the latest community news and happenings with the View to the Village newsletter, released every month. This newsletter features an address from Village President Dale Berman’s desk, as well as the latest news and relevant information from public works and the community’s various departments.
